The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 (SSC CHSL 2026). The recruitment is being conducted for Group C posts including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and DEO Grade ‘A’ in various Ministries, Departments and Offices of the Government of India.

As per the notification, approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies are available. The online application process will remain open from 7 September 2026 to 7 October 2026.

SSC CHSL 2026 Vacancy Details

SSC CHSL 2026 recruitment covers the following posts:

The approximate number of vacancies is 2,536. The final vacancy position will be determined after scrutiny and communication from the concerned User Departments.

SSC CHSL 2026 Salary

The post-wise pay levels mentioned in the notification are:

• LDC/JSA: Pay Level-2 – ₹19,900 to ₹63,200
• DEO: Pay Level-4 – ₹25,500 to ₹81,100
• DEO: Pay Level-5 – ₹29,200 to ₹92,300
• DEO Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4 – ₹25,500 to ₹81,100

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

For LDC/JSA and most DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts, candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

For DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC and Ministry of Culture, candidates must have passed 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.

Candidates appearing in the Class 12 examination can also apply, but they must possess the required qualification by 7 October 2026.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on 1 August 2026.

Candidates should have been born not before 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008.

Age relaxation is applicable to eligible reserved and other categories as per Government of India rules.

Application Fee

The application fee is ₹100.

Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen (ESM) categories are exempted from payment of the application fee. Fee payment can be made online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking and eligible debit cards.

SSC CHSL 2026 Important Dates

The Commission has advised candidates not to wait until the last date to submit their applications because heavy website traffic may cause login or submission problems.

SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Pattern

The SSC CHSL Computer Based Examination will be conducted in two tiers: Tier-I and Tier-II.

Tier-I Exam Pattern

The Tier-I examination has a 60-minute duration, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.

Tier-II Exam Pattern

Tier-II consists of four sections:

1. Section-I: Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning & General Intelligence
2. Section-II: English Language & Comprehension and General Awareness
3. Section-III: Computer Knowledge Test
4. Section-IV: Skill Test/Typing Test

Section-I carries 60 questions and 180 marks, while Section-II carries 60 questions and 180 marks. Section-III consists of 15 questions for 45 marks and is qualifying in nature.

There is 1 mark negative marking for each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III of Tier-II. Candidates must qualify all sections.

Typing/Skill Test

For DEO posts, the Skill Test is mandatory. Depending on the post, the required data-entry speed is 15,000 key depressions per hour or 8,000 key depressions per hour.

For LDC/JSA:

• English: 35 words per minute
• Hindi: 30 words per minute

The typing test is conducted for 10 minutes and is qualifying in nature.

SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process

Candidates will first appear in Tier-I. Candidates qualifying Tier-I will be shortlisted for Tier-II based on their performance and normalized scores.

The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of aggregate marks in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying Sections III and IV. Post and department allocation will also depend on the preferences submitted by candidates.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the new SSC website.

Steps to apply:

2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website.
3. Login using the registration details.
4. Select Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026.
5. Fill in the required personal, educational and other details.
6. Upload/provide the required photograph and signature as instructed.
7. Pay the application fee, if applicable.
8. Preview the application carefully.
9. Submit the application form.
10. Save/print a copy of the submitted application for future reference.

Candidates who generated OTR on the old SSC website will need to generate OTR on the new SSC website, as the old OTR will not function on the new website.
